What are your operating hours?

Our operating hours are from 8am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday. Occasional after hours and weekend babysitting is available!

Where are you located?

We are located on Tucker Lake Road in Beaver Bank Nova Scotia.

What ages do you accept?

We accept infants and toddlers from ten months old to three years old.

Do you offer CWELCC reduced rates or subsidy?

I am currently registered (licensed) in Ontario and LOVE that my families are paying less for quality care. However, with so many differences in how the CWELCC operates from province to province, I have made the tough decision to not become registered in Nova Scotia...yet. I will be revisiting this again in 2026 with hope that a new government will make positive changes to the CWELCC program.

Are you registered/ licensed?

I will continue to be licensed in Ontario until June 30, 2025. When I reopen in Nova Scotia, I will operate as unregistered with hope that positive changes come to the CWELCC for providers across all provinces. I will continue to operate with the same procedures and standards as if I were registered/licensed as this is how I prefer to operate anyway.

Are you CPR Certified?

Yes I am level C first aid certified through Red Cross.

Do you have police background checks?

Every adult living on the daycare premesis over the age of 18 will have an up to date Criminal Record Check (CR) and a Vulnerable Sector Check (VS). Every person over the age of 13 living on the premesis will have an up to date Child Abuse Register Check (CAR).

Do you provide meals for the children?

I provide two nutritious snacks and lunch.

What if my child has a food allergy?

Children with food allergies are required to bring all snacks and meals from home to ensure there is no cross contamination.

Do you have a schedule?

Yes, I post a weekly schedule that includes what food is being served and what activities will be offered. I also have a daily schedule that includes feeding times, diapering times, nap times and play times.

What is your caregiver-to-child ratio?

Our staff-to-child ratio is maximum 1:6 to ensure individualized attention and care.

Will I receive updates throughout the day?

Yes! I send photos and daily reports to families each day.

How are you different than a centre?

Dayhomes offer a calm, home-like environment where your child can bond with a consistent caregiver. Staff to child ratios are reduced, resulting in more individualized attention and less exposure to germs. If you prefer more more flexible and personalized care for your little one along with the same educational and safety standards than a larger centre, then a dayhome may be the right fit for your family.

Is your daycare a nut free environment?

Unfortunately we are not a nut free facility.

What health and safety measures do you have in place?

I understand the magnitude of my responsibility and have an overkill of health and safety measures in place. Several families have commented that my home is safer than their own! A full list of safety installments and H&S policies and procedures can be reviewed in my handbook.

How do you handle discipline?

Being provided with clear expectations along with consistent rules and boundaries is essential to a child's success in a daycare environment.  Simple rules with language that focuses more on the "dos" than the "don'ts" is my preferred method. I also use redirection and positive enforcement along with offering choices within limits to guide behaviours. Sometimes setting consequences or saying "no" can be appropriate, but I mainly save that for the big issues involving safety.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, we have two friendly, calm and well behaved Australian Shepherd/Border Collie-ish dogs named Roxy and Casey. They don't enter the playroom, but do come outside with us. They are fully vaccinated and treated for fleas, ticks and parasites. Roxy is studying to be a St John ambulance therapy dog where she hopes to one day visit schools and nursing homes.

Do you drive the children in your car?

No. Children will never be transported by taxi, bus or personal vehicle.

Do you offer screen time?

Children under two will not have screen time. For children above two who have dropped their nap, an educational show will be given if the child is unable to partake in quiet activities while the other children are napping.

Do you or anyone else in your home smoke, vape, drink or do drugs?

My home is a cigarette, vape and marijuana free environment. Like most grown ups, I occasionally enjoy wine with dinner after daycare hours. No legal or illegal drugs are stored on premesis.

How do you teach the children?

Children of toddler age learn best through exploration and having fun. I offer a play-based learning environment with a wide variety of materials and  play opportunities. I am an engaged caregiver and will find gentle, fun ways to insert learning into the day's activities as we go.

What do you teach the children?

My end game is to ensure your child has a successful transition into school. Social, emotional and physical readiness are just as important as academics. I teach social skills, empathy, independence, vocabulary, motor skills, self regulation, leadership skills, independence, ABC's and more. We do all of this through play and routine.

Do you provide outside time?

Yes we play outdoors every day, weather and appropriate clothing permitting.

Are you vaccinated?

Everyone living in the house will have up to date vaccinations as per Health Canada's Immunization Guidelines as well as Tuberculosis screening.

Do you require attending children to be vaccinated?

Yes. All children in care are expected to be vaccinated on schedule as per Health Canada's Immunization Guide, unless there is a documented medical reason for exception.

Do you have references?

Yes! I am proud to say I can provide excellent references from both current and graduated families as well as my supervisors and other daycare providers.

Do you have a written contract and a policy manual?

Yes I have both. All policies, reponsibilities, house rules and contracts are clearly written out because nobody wants surprises when it comes to their child's care.
